NEW YORK 12189 SARWV-RR-ME 9 February 1976 Prof. H. T. Hall Department of Chemistry Brigham Young University Provo, Utah 84601 Dear Prof. Hall: A high pressure symposium directed at topics relating to U. S. Army needs and of interest to the entire high pressure community is currently being planned under the joint sponsorship of Army Research Office and the Benet Laboratories at Watervliet Arsenal. The planned format will involve several presentations of approximately 20 minutes duration in selected topic areas, followed by ample discussion periods. There will be no published proceedings in order to foster a workshop atmosphere. Sessions are planned to cover the areas of pressure generation techniques, measurement techniques, calibration, physical properties, pressure induced superconductivity, cryogenic studies at high pressure, equation of state of solids, phase transitions and metallic hydrogen. The meeting is planned from 2 June to 4 June 1976 at the conference center of the Institute on Man and Science in Rensselaerville, New York. Due to the limited space available and in order to promote active participation by all, attendance will be limited to approximately 50 researchers in high pressure. Due to your high pressure research activity, we would like to invite your attendance and participation in this symposium. If you wish to make a formal presentation, we would appreciate receiving a title and short abstract. The selection of formal presentations will be based on the pertinency to and effective coverage of the topical areas within the time constraints of the symposium. However, ample time will be budgeted at each session for informal discussion. Although formal proceedings will not be published, in order to plan the program, a title and abstract (about 50 words) should be sent by 1 Mar 76 to: A copy of the program will be distributed to conference speakers and attendees. Room, board, and other costs will be approximately $110 for the three-day meeting. Details on accommodations will be included with the distribution of the program in early March. If there are any questions concerning the symposium, please contact the undersigned or C. Homan or D. P. Kendall at 518-266-5414. Commander Watervliet Arsenal ATTN: SARWV-RR-ME(C.
